BOCKUS, Van C.
Van C. Bockus, 81, of Vero Beach, FL and Chippewa Bay, NY, died Wednesday, (June 8, 2005) at his residence, after a prolonged illness. He was born September 1, 1923 in Maplewood, NJ. Mr. Bockus moved to Vero Beach, 18 years ago from Litchfield. He was a graduate of The Peddie School, Hightstown, NJ and Yale University, New Haven. Mr. Bockus was a member of the Chippewa Yacht Club, a 50 year member of the Masons and a member of Saint Michaels Episcopal Church in Litchfield. He was a Lieutenant in the U.S. 8th Air Force, 305th Bombardment Group, stationed in Chelveston, England during World War II. He was awarded the air medal for meritorious achievement in air combat. He was a mechanical engineer and planning manager for the Torrington Company of Torrington. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Ruth Bockus of Vero Beach, FL; three daughters, Nancy B. Ray of San Antonio, TX, Katherine VanWaters of West Hartford and Sarah M. Bockus of Richmond, NH; a son, Van C. Bockus III of Magnolia, TX; seven grandchildren and a brother Harry N. Bockus of Mountainside, NJ. He was preceded in death by his sister Dorothy B. Moeller. A memorial celebration for family and friends will be held at a later date. Cremation services were provided by Indian River Cremation, Inc.
